Hi Everyone! Well, we did it! We made 4 recipes to use up veggies, fruits and herbs that we got from the the summer garden. The first week, I made focaccia bread with pesto. Then I made homemade raspberry jam. Then, last week I made corn fritters. Now, to finish up the month, I’m gonna show you guys how to make pizza dough homemade. It is so simple, I can’t believe more people don’t make it.

How To Make Pizza Dough Homemade – The Process

This recipe is a little easier than other bread recipes in that it only needs to rise once. All it takes is combining all the ingredients together to make dough. Let that dough rise and you have pizza dough.

How To Make Pizza Dough Homemade – Adjusting The Dough

The goal here is for you to get a dough that comes together but isn’t too dry. Here are a few tricks that I have learned in my experience with making any dough. Not just bread dough.

Be Patient

I wait until all of the flour is incorporated to assess if it looks wet and if I want to add more flour. I used to think that you want to mix it as little as possible or it will get tough. And to a certain extent that is true but what makes a dough tough is when the gluten is over developed. Gluten is in the flour and if the flour isn’t incorporated it can’t be get worked and over develop.

It’s better to wait because if you don’t, you may think it’s too wet and add more and then it turns out dry. Now, you can always fix dry dough by adding a bit of water, But the same rule applies for water. Make sure all is incorporated before adding more.

Leave The Dough On The Wet Side

It has always been better in my experience to leave the dough a tiny bit wet and sticky. That way when you have flour on your work surface when you turn the dough out it will be perfect by the time it does to rise.

Oh… And One More Thing

DO NOT hold your excess flour to adjust the dough too close to the rotating dough hook. Or better yet stop the machine before you add more. I may have learned that the hard way.

Why Did I Chose To Show You Guys This In A Month Of Using Up Summer Garden Items, Anyway?

I chose to share this for a few reasons. I chose to show you how to make pizza dough homemade, one because making homemade pizza is I think one of the funnest recipes to make. And also, anything can go on a pizza. This making it a perfect way to use up those fresh veggies that you have grown in the summer garden. I decided to do pepperoni and mushroom on one pizza and green pepper, white onion, mushroom and pepperoni on the other.

Other Options To Go On Pizza

  • Fresh Basil + Fresh Tomatoes + Fresh Mozzarella = Margarita Pizza
  • Fresh Spinach + Mozzarella+ Chicken = Florentine Pizza
  • Red onion
  • Squash
  • Artichoke Hearts
  • Corn

How To Bake Pizza Dough Homemade – Baking and Serving

When it comes to baking, you have a few different options. If you like your pizza on the crispier side, you can assemble your pizza on a pizza peel and then slide it directly on the grates of the oven. If you like it a little softer like me, you can use a pizza pan, pizza stone, baking steel or even a baking sheet tipped upside down.

For serving, you can use a pizza cutter, or pizza shears which are basically just like scissors.

If there are any question, please let me know but and that’s pretty much it! That’s how I made a very simple homemade pizza recipe. Thank you so much for joining me this month in my series of recipes to use up things that you have harvested from your summer garden.
