So, fun fact about me is I am OBSESSED with Good Mythical Morning. If you have never heard of it, it’s an internet show on YouTube starring Rhett Mclaughlin and Link Neal. They do lots of taste tests and even sometimes make their own recipes. It’s very funny and interesting to see the thing that they try and the limits that they test with food.

Rhett and Link do a series on the show called “Will It” where they take a type of food for example a hot dog and make different foods in the formation of that food. So for example, they might take ground beef and put it into a sausage casing, put that into a corn tortilla bun and then put nacho cheese on top. This making a “taco hot dog”.

They then taste it and decide whether this new creation is better or not as good as what it’s supposed to be. Back in March, they did “Will It French Fry” where they took pound cake, cut it up into sticks and deep fried them. Spoiler alert, they ended up “willing” but they also said that the french fries soaked up way too much oil and were very greasy as a result. I think I know a way to fix that.

How To Make Air Fryer French (Cake) Fries

This post will be all about how to make air fryer French (Cake) fries. For this recipe, I used store bought pound cake that I cut up into “French fries” and then put in the air fryer. However, you can always used a homemade one like I used in this recipe.

As I said, I popped these “French Fries” in the air fryer for 10 minutes. I was just looking for them to be golden brown and crispy. This could take anywhere from 8-10 minutes depending on the air fryer, the size of the French fries and the amount of French fries.

I personally used the PowerXL air fryer but there are a ton of other ones. Some big, some small, some with preset and different functions, some with 2 baskets, and some with one.

I like this one because it is very user friendly and has a divider where you can turn 1 big basket into two.

How To Make Confetti Cake Dip For Your Air Fryer French (Cake) Fries

It was a little bit unclear to me what was used as a dip for these fries in Good Mythical Morning but Rhett said that it looked to be “frosting with sprinkles on top” to which one of the chefs of the show said “it’s not just frosting with sprinkles on top” but then didn’t elaborate so I went with confetti cake dip and this is how I made it.

There are a couple of different ways this could be done. But it starts the same way. I took the softened cream cheese and combined it with the confectioners sugar. I used an electric hand mixer for this to make the mixing and whipping easier. This is the one that I use:

Now, for this you want to add the confectioners sugar in little by little to avoid a cloud of confectioners sugar going everywhere.

What To Do About The Heavy Cream

You have options in this next step. You could whip your heavy cream to stiff peaks in a separate bowl and then fold it into the rest of the mixture after or you could just add the heavy cream and beat it together to stiff peaks.

In my experience, both ways have a very similar result. If you do the process in 2 separate bowls the outcome is a tiny bit fluffier, but to me it’s not worth the extra mess. So I just do it all in one bowl. If it was a frosting, I recommend getting every bit of fluffiness that you can but this is a dip so you want a little bit looser of a texture in my opinion.

Do I Use Confetti Cake Mix Or Not?

Again, like the heavy cream step there is no right answer here but I’ll give you some pro’s and con’s for each.

Lot’s of people when making confetti cake dip use the confetti cake box mix. On the one hand, the dip does get to be a fluffy and thick consistency and there is no need for almond extract, vanilla extract or salt because it’s included in the mix. However, adding this gives the dip a grainy and gluey texture in my opinion. So, I chose to not add it and add vanilla extract, almond extract, salt and rainbow sprinkles instead.

And that’s it! That’s how to make air fryer French fries with cake. I hope I did Good Mythical Morning proud with this recipe. I love the show so much and they are definitely “a part of my daily routine” as they say. This recipe was a lot of fun so let me know if you enjoyed as well. it is so good! The people in my house can’t stop eating it. We had to make a round 2 of the cake fries because we just couldn’t get enough and had leftover dip.
