Hi everyone! I am so excited that it’s October and it’s halloween party season. So I had to make a few party appetizers.

Last week, I showed you my recipe for a witch’s cauldron bread bowl and spinach and artichoke dip brew. This week, I am making my version the viral tiktok trend. The butter board.

So without further a due, I bring you the butter “cream” Board Recipe. A kind of halloween themed spooky charcuterie board.  Cream cheese frosting in 3 differant fun and festive halloween colors all swirled together.

Let’s Break It Down

The Traditional Version Of The Butter Board

Tik tok trends are crazy! Now people are all about the butter board trend! People are taking salted butter at room temperature and smearing it on a plate or wooden board and adding toppings to make a flavor, compound or herbed butteras an accompaniment to their charcuterie board. They then smear it on warm, fresh and crusty bread. You can also use vegan butter for this.

Examples of Savory Toppings

  • Olive Oil
  • Roasted Garlic
  • Roasted Red Pepper Flakes
  • Flaky Sea Salt
  • Fig Jam
  • Citrus Zest like Lemon Zest
  • Fresh Herbs

How To Make Roasted Garlic

Preheat the oven to 400•, Cut 1/4- 1/2 of an inch off of 1 garlic bulb to expose the cloves. Wrap in tin foil and bake for 30-40 minutes.

The Sweet Version of The Butter Board

The other thing that is trendy right now is adding sweet things to their softened unsalted butter for a sweet butter board idea but I decided to take it on step further and make not just butter but butter “cream”frosting.

Now people are adding things like sweet things to their unsalted butter for a sweet butter board idea but I decided to take it on step further and make not just butter but butter “cream”frosting.

Examples of Sweet Toppings

  • Hot Honey
  • Nuts
  • Salt
  • Brown Sugar
  • Cream Cheese
  • Maple Syrup
  • Cinnamon
  • Fruit Like Fresh Figs
  • Edible Flowers

Before We Can Make A Halloween Butter “Cream” Board For A Dessert Charcuterie Board, What Even Is A Charcuterie Board?

A charcuterie board or a grazing board as it’s sometimes called is a party appetizer that is a big cutting board, slate, or plate that is piled high with meats, cheeses, crackers, nuts, olives etc. MMMMMM my absolute favorite at a party.

Don’t worry, sweet/dessert charcuterie boards, grazing boards or dessert tables can get in on the fun too. The sweet version is the same thing, just with candy, cookie, cake, chocolate dip and frosting, fresh fruit or even dried fruit.

So with the addition of the butter board recipe, like I said, people are just adding bread to smear the butter on. For halloween butter boards, you might add cinnamon or pumpkin spice or just leave it plain or sprinkle on some roasted pumpkin seeds.

How I Transformed This Butter Board Recipe Into a Dessert Charcuterie Board Idea

Now there are plenty of sweet butter board recipes but I decided to make butter cream to dip cookies and other sweet things in as opposed to making a sweet butter to spread on bread. Which you can absolutely do but I chose this route instead.

After I made the cream cheese buttercream I split it up into 3 bowls. Coloring each, 1 purple, 1 green and 1 orange. Then I spooned each color of frosting next to each other and swirled the colors together with a toothpick.

You can also make this so much easier on yourself if you just buy a can of premade frosting from the store. You can then split it into bowls and color it. I just find that homemade tastes better but that is totally up to you.

You also don’t have to use the colors that I used and this recipe can be adapted for every holiday. You can make the frosting red and green for Christmas or pink for Valentine’s Day etc.

How To Make Confectioners Sugar

When I went to make my frosting, I found that I was out of confectioners sugar but no worries, it is incredibly easy to make. All you have to do it pulse granulated sugar in a high powered blender until fine. So next time you realize this don’t freak out.

Butter "Cream" Board

Yield: 5 Cups
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

A sweet take on the viral butter board! A plate of sweet cream cheese frosting with sugar cookies for dipping.

Ingredients

Cream Cheese Buttercream

  • 1/2 of a block Cream Cheese
  • 1 Stick of Unsalted Butter
  • 5 Cups of Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract
  • Orange gel food coloring
  • Purple gel food coloring
  • Green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Place the softened butter, vanilla extract and cream cheese in the bowl of your stand mixer, or you can use a hand mixer or just by hand with a whisk.
  2. Whisk until fully combined and fluffy. About 2 minutes.
  3. Add the confectioners sugar in little by little whisking until combined.
  4. Split the frosting up into 3 bowls. Put 1 drop of each color into each bowl of the bowls. I made 1 green, 1 purple and 1 orange because the cookies I used were black but you could do any colors you like.
  5. Spoon each of the colors in a line next to each other.
  6. Use a knife or toothpick to swirl the colors together as much as you like.
  7. Serve with cookies, cake pieces or brownie bites. Also, if you have sprinkles you can add those on top too.
