*Sigh*……. This week was a tough one. I intended to make a completely separate recipe this week which long story short, ended up in disaster.  So plan B is these Halloween Frosted Brownies.

This recipe is very customizable to your liking. I used halloween sprinkles and caramel M&M’s on top for an added texture change but you can use whatever you like. These brownies are pretty sweet because of the frosting on top and if we learned anything from my dessert nacho’s recipe , it’s that sweet and salty go amazing together so maybe some pretzels would go great here.

So because of time constraints, these will be no video of this on my YouTube channel.  Just the blog post.

Halloween Frosted Brownies : The Process

Fudge Brownie Recipe For These Halloween Brownies

So these halloween brownies are made with my fudge brownie recipe. This recipe has both granulated and brown sugar to get a great chewy an well as fudgy texture. The brownie batter is then spread into an 8×8 inch baking pan so that you get a thick brownie.

halloween brownies

To make this recipe super easy, you can always use a store bought brownie mix and spread that brownie batter into an 8×8 inch baking pan.

Do Not Overmix

Getting that papery top is the mark of a good brownie. How you do that is do not overmix. Stop mixing once everthing is fully incorperated. And mix this by hand can also help the batter not get overworked.

Halloween Frosting or Icing and Decoration For These Brownies

These cooled brownies are then tipped with frosting. I used grocery store frosting, tinted orange with food coloring and topped with sprinkles and caramel M&M’s.

Toppings that Could Be Used

Just make sure to give these brownies enough time to cool before putting on the frosting or it will come right off.

Also, to minimize the mess, I decorated these fully in the pan before pulling them out using the parchment paper and slicing.

The other thing to do with these brownies is cut out halloween shaped brownies with cookie cutters and then frost and decorate. You could have ghost brownies, tombstone or graveyard brownies, monster brownies, or even a mummy brownie recipe. and then decorate them with Homemade cream cheese frosting or just plain vanilla or chocolate with butter and powdered sugar, candy, candy eyeballs, candy pumpkins, chocolate chip, halloween sprinkles for this halloween treat.

Instructions

For Brownies

  1. Preheat the oven to 350• and prepare an 9x9 inch baking pan by spraying it with non stick spray and lining it with parchment paper one way and then the other with parchment paper, spraying in between so that the parchment paper sticks to itself.
  2. Start by melting the chocolate and butter over a double boiler.
  3. Pour the lmelted chocolafte and butter mixture unto a large bowl. Add in the sugars to the chocolate and stir to combine. Then let the mixture cool to room temperature before the next step.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time and stir between each addition.
  5. Sift in the cocoa powder ,flour, and salt and stir to combine.
  6. Add in the vanilla extract and instant espresso powder and stir to combine.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and level it off.
  8. Bake for 30-45 minutes or until a toothpick in the center comes out with moist crumbs but not wet batter.
  9. Let cool completely for 1 hour.

Decoration

  1. Empty the can of frosting into a medium sized bowl.
  2. Mix with an electric mixer for about 30 seconds to losen.
  3. Add 3 drops of orange food coloring.
  4. Mix until the color is uniform.
  5. Spread the frosting in an even layor on the cooled brownies.
  6. Scatter as many or as little caramel M&M's as you like overtop. I left my M&M's in the fridge so that the caramel would get chewy.
  7. Scatter halloween sprinkles on top.
  8. Refridgerate for 30 minutes to allow everything to firm up.
  9. Slice into as many pieces as you like. I did 25. These are very rich so a small piece goes a long way.
